More Introduction

1. Introduction of SABS certification

The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) is a tripartite certification body established under the National Standards Act promulgated in 1945. SABS certification is widely used in electrical products, safety equipment, mechanical products and automotive products and other fields. In recent years, SABS certification has become an important weight for the South African government to control the import of products. After the product obtains the SABS certificate, it is necessary to provide the local agent information to South Africa, so that the South African government will issue a LOA (Letter of Authorization) to the agent. At this time, the customer can sell to South Africa.

2. Common certification standards for SABS certification:

Information technology products: adopt a series of standard IEC62368;

Audio and video and electronic entertainment equipment: adopt series standard SANS IEC6238;

Household and similar products: adopt series standard SANS IEC 60335;

3. SABS certification information provided

1. Safety test: CB report plus certificate and test report containing IEC standard stipulated by South African country.

2. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Test Report

3. Additional documents: application form, authorization letter, English user manual, safety warning on the label must be in English.

4. SABS certification process

1. The manufacturer completes the application form;

2. If the factory has more than one workshop, a separate application form is required. Each product within the scope of certification is required to be reflected on the application form. In addition, the factory also needs to fill in the application form for the credit of the person in charge, and the person in charge must guarantee the first inspection fee and other certification fees;

3. After the South African Bureau of Standards receives the application form, an audited quotation will be issued;

4. On the premise that the quotation is approved, the South African Bureau of Standards will conduct a factory review;

5. If the above audits are passed, the South African Bureau of Standards will prepare an annual supervision contract;

6. There will be two auditors to conduct random audits every year, and the annual supervision and testing fees will be stated in the contract;

7. The two auditors will take the samples back to the laboratory for random inspection;

8. The samples for subsequent testing will be drawn from the South African buyer's goods by the South African Bureau of Standards. If the batch of goods is less than 4 times per year, then insufficient samples will be required to be sent from the factory, and the cost will be charged by Factory undertakes;

9. If the test result is unqualified, then the cost of the sample and the cost of retesting will be borne by the factory;

10. The validity period of the certificate will be three years, unless there are other reasons to cancel the certificate.

Five, SABS certification matters needing attention

1. South Africa's certification is divided into two situations: the first application is to apply for LOA and COC, which are mandatory for imports from South Africa, and this certification process is not allowed to affix the SASB trademark on the product's label. No factory inspection is required; the second type of application is based on the first application. You can apply for the use of SABS Mark again. The use of this mark requires a series of factory inspection procedures, which cost a lot and must pay a certain amount every year. The annual fee and factory inspection fee are used as the right to use the logo.

2. COC is EMI test, LOA is the approval of letter of authority agent, go directly to South Africa to apply.
